Hey Legend! Thanks for stopping by, if you're looking for a particular blog you can click the categories below for easy access!
This is the first in a new series of mine, called meet the maker. As you would have probably seen if you’ve been following me.. My dive into the corporate/commercial & product photography has gone bananas is a very small amount of time.
Like, Gwen Stefani Bananas. B-A-N-A-N-A-S.
I’ve had the chance to meet some seriously amazing, talented, driven, like-minded Women who I am totally in love with being around. Other Mum’s who share the day to day struggle of trying to run a business from home with young monsters, ahem, I mean kids. And what better person to start with than my new friend Issy, who, before even launching her business officially has sold her REAL Milestone Cards! If that is not a successful business woman, then I dunno what is!
Seriously Milestone cards feature 20 cards to help you through parenting’s ‘real’ moments – those moments that you might prefer to forget at the time, but will laugh about later on. Moments include the first time your baby (and you) woke up every hour, their first poo in the bath and that fateful moment when they found their genitals.
These cards are not only HILARIOUS, but they are refreshingly real. Can one of my friends PLEASE get pregnant so I can gift these to you!
1. Why did you start your business?
Because my beautiful friend (turned business mentor) Em (from Happy Hands Happy Heart) told me to! I’d been sitting on the idea for over 6 months but I had no idea where to start or what running a business actually looked like, plus I was totally sleep deprived. Em gave me the confidence to take it to the next level and has been my biggest supporter since.
2. What is your biggest struggle as a Mum working from home?
Trying to hide in the toilet so I can reply to comments on Social Media while the kids are yelling at me on the other side of the door! I’m trying SO hard to not be on my phone all the time for my sake and my kids’ sake, but also provide the best customer service I can – it’s a hard balance. I think the key is not being too hard on yourself, some days it works, some days it doesn’t, and that’s ok.
3. What is your biggest achievement to date?
One of my first goals was to have 10 stockists on board from day 1 of the launch – and I have! I am beyond excited with some of the amazing shops that have taken a chance on my business and especially the owners who got on board before they even saw my packaging! I love that they could see the potential right from the start.
4. Tell us something that your customers might not know about you.
One time I was picked up by an Ambulance from Bourke Street Mall, right out the front of Myer. It was totally embarrassing but I was also in so much pain I didn’t care. I still don’t believe the hospitals final verdict that it was only gastro…
5. What is your favourite milestone card?
Hard question! I think it has to be the ‘I found my genitals’ card though, because it wasn’t part of the original 20 and only came into the mix when it actually happened with my little man. As soon as he went to bed that night I emailed my designer to add it in!
6. What are you excited for?
Meeting more amazing business people. I feel so lucky to be starting a business in Bendigo, as it is an absolute melting pot of creative and supportive geniuses, and I have already made so many connections in Bendigo alone. I’m definitely looking forward to seeing who else this journey brings me into contact with.
7. Who do you admire?
So many people!
My Hubby for starting his own business 2 years ago and absolutely killing it! He has been so supportive of my venture and even folds boxes for me.
My friends and family for not minding when all I talk about is the business and for always giving me new ideas but also keeping me in check.
All of the amazing business Mummas I have had the pleasure of meeting, either in person or through social media, over the last few months. The level of integrity, support, encouragement and openness to share ideas and advice is something I couldn’t have imagined. There are too many to mention but I hope they know who they are.
8. If you could change one thing about your business, what would it be?
That I didn’t start it earlier! But I also believe that things are meant to happen to us at certain times, so I’d have to say I wouldn’t change anything at this point.
9. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
The dream is that ‘Seriously Milestones’ is absolutely kicking goals! I would love to think that my little idea has made it out of Australia and that I’ve been able to release the other projects that are bubbling away inside of my head. I hope that I am still as excited about the business as I am now, and that I am still working with other business mums to support and encourage each other.
10. Lastly, tell us 5 fun facts about yourself!
I do hope you have enjoyed getting to know Issy and her business as much as I have!
Don’t forget the official launch of Seriously Milestones TOMORROW!!! (1st July 2016)
Let’s help make this launch one to be remembered by purchasing, sharing and/or tagging friends who you think will love them AND getting on board with the #seriouslymilestones hashtag to document those real parenting moments!
