– Meet the Maker ~ Vol. 2 –
Bendigo Commercial Photographer
Introducing… The legend, The one… The only… Morgi Mac!
Bendigo’s leading graphic designer, chief joker and Mum of two who is turning heads with fresh, innovative and new design solutions in corporate & event stationary design.
I have SO much time for this woman. We met only recently when I photographed some of her wedding stationary (P.S. AH-MAZINGGG!!!), we hung out for the day and styled her photos together and talked about our love for coffee, our respective lack of sleep, and our monsters *ahem, children* who cause that said lack of sleep… And it was just really good, easy conversation. Y’know those relationships that just aren’t forced? LOVE. THAT.
Since then, we have become good friends – We have so much in common and I’m so stoked I met the person behind the brand! She is kind, extremely generous, and more importantly she laughs at my jokes. #winning. Bendigo Commercial Photographer
It’s so easy to see a logo or a brand and not see the hours and hours (and I mean HOURS) of work that goes on behind the scenes. We see a pretty picture, but don’t see the personality of the person who has created it. So that my friends, is why I had created my “Meet the Maker” series.
Morgi is second off the ranks…. So here we go!! Enjoy meeting the beautiful lady that I know and love… Morgi Mac!

1. Why did you start your business?
I was ready to really push myself! I loved working as a graphic designer for various companies but was ready to take the big step on my own to see what it was like in the big wide world of owning and running your own business. As a designer it gives you the ability to pick and choose jobs and clients which I really love and it also has given me the opportunity to grow as a manager and learn the nuts and bolts of crappy jobs like invoicing and doing things right for the tax man.
2. What is your biggest struggle as a Mum working from home?
Time… Never enough of it really. I really try and divide my mummy time from my working life but that tends to find me banging away on the keyboard at all hours of the night (which I kinda love). I guess my career is one of the only bits left of ‘the old me’ before I became a mum so any waking moment I can spend working, I do, I just love it to bits.
3. What is your biggest achievement to date?
I am not sure it is a ‘big achievement’ but one of the cornerstones of my business has always been high level customer service. I have managed to work hard at this and am now in a wonderful situation where most of my current work is from word of mouth and the testimonials I have been receiving have been so lovely and glowing it makes me so proud. To me knowing that my clients are happy makes that my biggest achievement.
4. Tell us something that your customers might not know about you.
I really hate phone calls… Terrible I know but a face to face meeting, text or email I can do like a pro. Something about that shrill ringing of my phone makes my skin crawl. I get anxious, nervous and tend to dribble utter crap. I also work hard at not taking calls when with my boys so that its not the norm to them.
5. What is your favourite invitation?
Ooohh thats a hard one but I think it was the first REAL invite set I designed for Lauren & Greg way back when I first started. It is a mix of simple design with a lovely quirky font and a touch of handcrafted cuteness. It is the invitation design that everyone is drawn to and everyone comments on proving its timelessness.
6. What are you excited for?
Everything that the future holds. I am excited to keep doing what I am doing but more of it. Excited to work with the great clients I already have and to find more. Excited to grow. Excited to learn. Excited to continue to push myself in every way possible. I know this sounds weird too but I am excited to work with some new and fresh talent that questions my designs and provides me with some honest feedback. Like the good ol uni days!
7. Who are you business idols? Or who do you admire?
I admire so many but my gosh there is such an amazing group of talented women and mummas running their own small businesses in Bendigo! Ladies that I have met in person or via social media (who I feel like I know personally) are always so full of positiveness and kind words. It is wonderful to know you are surrounded my a community of people who know exactly what you are going through, juggling motherhood while trying to enjoy and be successful in the business world.
I also admire my father. He has been a teacher and farmer for many years. He has loved and still loves all aspects of those roles but has been working hard over the last number of years to establish himself as an author and specialist educator. He has recently published his first book to do with education. So proud of him and the constant reminder that no matter what age or stage of your life you can do ‘WHATEVER’ makes you happy, its not to late!
8. If you could change one thing about your business what would it be?
It would probably be my ability to switch off from business life. It is all consuming. I know it won’t happen but I would love not to reply to client emails in the small hours of the night and on weekends. I would love to not feel guilty about taking holidays.
9. Where do you see your business in 5 years time?
I see my business growing in the next 5 years dramatically. I am working towards developing a studio space to house ‘Morgi Mac’ with 3-5 wonderful and talented designers to working alongside me. I can’t wait to get cracking on this and I am hoping it will fit in nicely with my life as both of my boys will be at school.
10. Tell us 5 fun facts about yourself (personal or business)
1. I am a farm girl. Born and bred. Don’t mind a bit of poo on my boot and love the quietness of rural life.
2. I am totally hopeless at hair and makeup. I wish I could but I have tried and I can’t.
3. When in the US in 2007 my husband and I went to a taping of Jerry Springer. We managed to find ourselves front row centre. I sat next to Steve! I have no idea why I have recalled that memory but it was so much fun!
4. Big Disney fan! Probably more the older stuff though. The Little Mermaid is a personal fav! but on a serious note I have endless admiration for the illustrators that worked so hard to bring those films to life.
5. I HATE BIRDS! Stems from a childhood full of chooks, breeding birds and having your little brother tip a nest of pink baby birds on your head. So gross… I am forcing myself to work on a massive bird related project in the coming months.

Morgi’s talent is endless – And like me, she struggles to showcase the different sides to her business.
While she has lots of big business corporate accounts, she is also the master of wedding and event stationary! Two completely different clientele, two completely different target audiences, so how do you market yourself to appeal to both?! That is the million dollar question that we are both looking for the answer to!!
So while we curl up in a ball in the corner trying to figure it out… Please enjoy some of Morgi’s favourite invitation sets she has designed!
I do hope you have enjoyed getting to know Morgi, and now love her as much as I do!
If you would like to contact Morgi, you can find her here!
