What To Wear to your branding photoshoot
What to wear to your branding photoshoot!
It’s one of my most frequently asked questions, so I thought I’d put my thoughts into a blog so that this can help you in your preparation for our shoot together!!
Things to consider are:
ONE// COLOUR
Colour plays a big role in your branding photoshoot. Firstly, we need to consider your branding colours and where your photos will be used. Solid colours work really well, whether they are neutral or bold. Large patterns look amazing, but be careful of smaller, busier patterns.
TWO// WHERE WILL YOUR PHOTOS BE USED
Think about the overall aesthetic of your website, social media and marketing collateral that your images will be used on, and choose your outfits accordingly. If you have branding guide, check in with this and work around that.
THREE// LOCATION
Where are you going to be photographed? Your location plays a huge role too. If you have booked a studio with a white wall… don’t wear all white, if ya get my drift! You might have found an awesome pink wall that is SO on brand, and in that case you might pair your usual colour-loving clothing down and wear something more neutral (Or you could embrace your love of colour and go big & bold with your outfit and outshine that wall too – Your call!)
FOUR // COMFORT
Comfort trumps everything else. If you are not comfortable in your outfit, it will reflect in your photos… So above all else, make sure you turn up as yourself, and super comfy!
FIVE // WHAT TO STEER CLEAR OF
Thin stripes – can trick the eye and create a strange effect on your photos
Red – It can throw onto your face/skin (ain’t nobody want red skin in their photos!) and mess with your skin tone. It can definitely work in small doses, but be warned it can alter your skin colour.
All black – I know, I know… most of us love (and feel comfortable) in black, but try adding some colour to add dimension. Black also shows up every piece of fluff & specs, so if you do want to wear black, be sure to pack the lint roller!
SIX // WHAT TO BRING
Outfits – Depending on the length of your shoot, bring multiple outfit changes so you have options. This will allow you to use your photos for longer!
Props – Are a great way to be literal in sharing what it is you are about. If you are a product based business, bring your product. If you are a service based business; you may have a ‘tool’ that you use so you can bring that (Eg: I’m a photographer, so I could bring my camera)
Shot list – Write down a list of must-have shots (make sure you share this with me long before your shoot so I can prepare) so we don’t forget anything on the day. It is fast paced, and it is easy to get wrapped up in the awesomeness of everything!
Your personality! – I get it… Being in front of a camera is super confrontational for most people. It’s REALLY hard to be comfortable. But.. You will absolutely regret it if you let your shyness get in the way of you shining like the bright star that you are! Don’t let fear control you, and don’t worry about making a ‘fool’ of yourself in front of me (or anyone) because guess what? A) I already think you’re awesome. B) I will make a fool of myself too, just to make you feel comfortable, and C) There is nothing embarrassing about owning your shit and being confident!
SEVEN // PRE-SHOOT PREPARATION
Hydrate – Make sure you keep your fluids up in the days leading up to your shoot. This will help keep your skin plump and lovely (and also decreased bags/dark circles under your eyes)
Paint your nails – I’m all about zooming in and getting close-up details, so think about the perfect colour and paint your nails. Every little detail counts!!
Hair & Makeup – Whether you do it yourself or hire professionals for the job, it’s a great idea to think about what style you are aiming for.
EIGHT // WRAPPING THINGS UP
Turn up & own it!
These sessions will be as fun as humanly possible. They will elevate your business. You will walk away feeling accomplished and empowered. They are what you make of them, so let’s have some fun!!
